General information

29-year-old, Salvatore Cumbo founded Salvo in 1968 motivated by his profound wish to bring the authentic and delicious food from his home country to the UK.
He started with a small Delicatessen shop in North London selling exquisite Italian food and allowing the best of Mediterranean products to be served on London tables.

Step by step his passion lead him to success and in 1975 Salvatore moved his business to Caledonian Road; a bigger premise where his two brothers Giuseppe and Calogero, son-in-law Domenico and daughters Giuseppina and Teresa joined the company. Salvo’s dedication to product quality and trust-based business relationships allowed to build and continuously grow a larger customer base: supplying major restaurants, hotels and café groups.

In 2011 Salvo joins forces with a leading Italian importer of fine foods, Rondanini; together they create a new joint venture called Salvo 1968 Ltd, supplying major restaurants and café groups from a new, modern distribution facility in Hertfordshire.

In 2013, Salvo 1968 is the first Italian wholesaler to launch an online shopping platform: user-friendly, efficient and transparent pricing for over 1500 products.

In 2014 Salvo 1968 receives the EFSIS accreditation, a widely recognised standard for storage and distribution of chilled and ambient foods, but the company aims for more: the BRC accreditation. A year later, the team’s efforts are rewarded with grade A of the BRC accreditation in storage and distribution (British Retail Consortium).

From 1968 until today, Salvo 1968 strives to deliver the best of traditional and new Italian products and brands and to provide a tailor-made service every day to every single one of its 1000+ customers.
