BBC National Orchestra of Wales Company Information
General information
The BBC National Orchestra of Wales is both a broadcast orchestra and the national symphony orchestra of Wales led by Principal Conductor Thomas Søndergård. Part of BBC Wales and supported by Arts Council of Wales, BBC NOW is Orchestra-in-Residence at Cardiff’s St David’s Hall and performs a busy schedule of live concerts throughout Wales and the UK.
Nearly all the Orchestra’s performances can be heard on the BBC, and they regularly perform at the BBC Proms and BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. The Orchestra’s Learning team strive to make classical music accessible, they are also the UK’s foremost soundtrack orchestra, working Doctor Who and War and Peace, among others.
Formed in 1983, the BBC National Chorus of Wales is one of the leading large mixed choruses in the UK. Led by its Artistic Director Adrian Partington, BBC NCW enjoys a close performing and recording relationship with the BBC NOW.
