Fight Eating Disorders

General information

fightED provide support and advice to parents and carers who have a loved one suffering from an eating disorder. We know through our own experiences that eating disorders do not just affect the individual, they can have a devastating impact on the whole family.

fightED provide courses for parents and carers on the New Maudsley Model. The New Maudsley Model was developed by the South London and Maudsley Hospital, and is designed to educate and empower families who have a loved one suffering from an eating disorder. fightED course facilitators have been trained by the founders of the New Maudsley Model, and have delivered the courses to over 200 families throughout Northern Ireland and Ireland.

On fightED's New Maudsley course, parents will be taught about eating disorders, enhanced communication skills, the psychology of change, how to promote recovery in their loved one, and many more skills. This should leave parents feeling better equipped to manage what is often a difficult and stressful situation.

As there is no inpatient centre in Northern Ireland, most sufferers are treated on an outpatient basis. This means that they are usually only seen by a professional for one hour a week. For every other hour they are at home with their families. We feel therefore that it makes a lot of sense to teach parents the necessary skills to support and help their loved one.
