Doncaster Rowing Club

General information

The boathouse complex is located within the attractive surroundings of Hexthorpe Park, and the club has almost exclusive access to 5km of the River Don. With its abundant wildlife, its semi-rural landscape, its sheltered location and its stable water levels, this stretch of water is close to being the perfect rowing location and viewed by many as Doncaster’s best kept secret.

Regular club sessions are Saturday and Sunday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings when the club’s membership makes extensive use of the clubs fleet of 60+ boats which encompasses all rowing formats. In the winter months the evening sessions take place indoors and take advantage of the extensive and very well equipped gymnasium on the first floor of the main boathouse.

The club is undergoing its fastest rate of growth since the pivotal meeting in a nearby pub in 1989 when a group of local enthusiasts decided such a perfect river was crying out for a rowing club. The club colours are a lasting testament to the ambition and dedication of that first meeting (they are those of the local brewery).

The club is well represented by active rowers of both genders and within all age groups who regularly compete in events across the country throughout the year. The strength and success of its junior section is of particular note and enjoys national acclaim.
