General information

Grandad was from a family of Mormons in the East End (a proper Cockney). I distinctly remember the phrase "some tea leaf has half-inched my chisel!" (I'll provide a translation on request). He worked as a carpenter during the second world war and apparently spent time fixing the big warehouse roofs on the docks while the V2 missiles whizzed overhead. He later became a woodwork teacher in Newark, Nottinghamshire and, after my dad was expelled from nursery school (that's another story) had to babysit my dad in the workshop. For entertainment my dad was handed a saw, hammer and nails and told to do some woodwork. After that background I couldn't help but become a carpenter, although it did take me a few years to realise it!

My aim is to provide luxury bespoke furniture in a sustainable way.

Sustainability means making effective use of resources without compromising on quality. So I use timber harvested as near to my workshop as I can get it, which is about 30 or 40 miles.
