Bujinkan Kagami Ninjutsu Dojo Company Information

General information

We study the martial tradition of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu which comprises of nine schools of traditional Ninjutsu (3) and Samurai arts (6). Instruction in traditional weaponry and meditation is also given.

Bujinkan Kagami Dojo teaches students to foster an unproblematic and harmonious mental approach to compliment the fighting techniques that we study.

Our dojo is slightly different from other martial art dojo. Potential students try their first lesson free of charge to ensure the training is what they are looking for. But it is also used to decide whether we feel they would make a good student and if this is so, we offer membership of our dojo to them. We seek quality students, not quantity.

Therefore as a dojo with traditional Japanese etiquette, we look for potential students who are polite, respectful, honest, interested in learning about themselves and most importantly have a good heart.

A commitment to regularly attending training is required. Please do not apply for membership to the dojo if you feel you cannot commit to regular attendance.

Classes are conducted in a courteous and positive atmosphere within a matted environment and regular grading opportunities are offered.

We are an active member of the worldwide Bujinkan organisation, which is headed by Grandmaster Dr Masaaki Hatsumi in Japan.

Beginners and the more experienced martial artists are very welcome to apply for membership. Our minimum age is 18 years old due to the nature of our techniques and the fact that childrens joints are still growing and can be adversely affected.

Michael Colbourne has over 30 years of martial arts experience studying Judo, Karate and Kendo before starting Ninjutsu in 1987.

He has attended many seminars and Tai-Kai's over the years and after training with Grandmaster Hatsumi and his Master Teachers, he was personally graded by Grandmaster Hatsumi in Japan to 5th degree black belt after successfully passing his Godan test in 2005.

Once awarded this rank, he then made the decision not to grade higher as a sign of respect towards his own teacher who publicly retired from teaching as a 5th Dan in December 2008.
