The Chesterfield Musketeers Company Information
General information
The Chesterfield Musketeers were originally formed in 1953 as The Newbold Carnival Band but after a transformation of uniform in 1981 it was time to say Goodbye to the dated but highly successful Chesterfield Toppers Carnival Band.
The Newly named Chesterfield Musketeers Showband entered into the Contest world on July 12th 1981, at Hoyland Nether Barnsley and within one month collected their first, First Prize award in a major competition.
At present the marching membership consists of around 21 to 28 playing members, with instruments ranging from Percussion through to Saxophones and Trumpets. The main uniform is a copy of the 1994 epic film about the "Three Musketeers", with the second being based on Alexandre Dumas' novel of the legendary heroes.
Since 1981, the band have grown from strength to strength winning all before them, the most notable being crowned the ‘Isle of Man World Showband Champions’ not once but a record three times and becoming runners-up on three other occasions.
Competing over in Spain the ‘Musketeers’ were successful, winning on two out of three occasions in the ‘Sunrider Spanish Classics’
Further successes have been accomplished in Landkries Darmstadt, Germany, Troyes in France, Northern Ireland ‘Millennium Carnival and Milk Cup’ and a further nine appearances to-date in the prestigious ‘Jersey Battle of Flowers’
Although all the members are amateurs, the standard performed is of a professional quality.
