Butokokan Judo Club

General information

Butokokan Judo is a family based Judo club, ran by a father, Michael Douglass, and two sons, Glen Douglass and Andrew Douglass, as well as a family friend, Steve Smith. Together, we teach the art of Judo to students, aged 5 onwards, including senior students.
Butokokan Judo was founded on 18th June 2011, and have now seen 4 years of success, with many more to come. We started at Newbiggin Sports Centre, with one session a week, Saturday 12-1.30. When the club started to expand further in January 2013 we added another session on a Tuesday evening, 6-7. In September 2013 we took over a judo club in Ashington for juniors, and continued running another 2 sessions a week, Monday and Friday evenings, 6-7. The club is now running on the same basis as this, and this is proving as successful as we'd hoped
Judoka regularly return and improve upon their judo technical and competative abilities, demonstrating this well in our gradings. As a club we try to put on as many events as possible, including competitions, courses, and Masterclasses with well known, successful Judoka.
We are a member of the Bushido Za-Zen International Martial Arts Society, as well as the British Judo Association.
