I have always given100% to any sport I have been involved in and was a competitive swimmer from the age of 12 for Foyle amateur swimming club. I also competed in club rugby for Cooke and international rugby for Ireland.
I studied HND Applied Biology at Jordanstown University and went on to work at Queens University Belfast as a Physiology and Anatomy technician for 10 years, where my interest in sports medicine was nurtured by the esteemed l Professor Wallace. I completed a Massage and Sports Therapy Diploma in 1996 and have been working hands on with people in my own business ever since.
My official yoga training began in 2005 when I joined the first group of students in Northern Ireland to study the world renowned Iyengar yoga. After 2 years of regular study and practice I achieved my level 2 qualification and I have been teaching in my own Flame Yoga studio since 2006. Throughout my career, I have grown holistically as a practitioner by training in courses such as :
Reflexology(1999); Indian Head Massage(2002); Viscereal Manipulation levels 1 and 2 (2007); Aerial Yoga (2012); APPI Pilates Mat Level 1 (2013); Birthlight yoga for Motherhood (2016).
YOGA THERAPY CLASSES FOR ALL
Over my 20 year career, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of people with a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. As class numbers are limited to 10 people every person benefits from individual attention customised to suit their unique requirements.
Western lifestyles restrict joint and muscle flexibility and cause body structures to break down, resulting in pain and injuries. Fortunately our bodies have an amazing ability to adapt. My Yoga Therapy classes for All encourage good postural alignment and muscle balance. Long term poor postural habits are thus gradually improved. In class we learn an awareness of individual postural patterns. We incorporate the use of props such as wall ropes, balance pods, massage and Pilates balls. These help support our bodies to realign by releasing restrictions and energy blockages and restoring balanced muscle tone. Regular practice helps us to return a more fluid and natural movement pattern and therefore improved posture, less pain and discomfort.
