General information
Hello
I have no idea what to write about so how about I tell you a bit about myself. My Name is Adam and I am 35 Years old, I live in Sowerby Bridge near Halifax, West Yorkshire. I live with My partner and we have 2 children. I have been a Personal Trainer since August 2016, before this I Managed various public houses in West Yorkshire. I played a lot of Rugby League and attended the local gym on a regular basis before I became a full time manager.I enjoy watching Rugby League with my young son when we get the chance to attend the games.
So how and why did I become A PT ?
In February 2016 I was made redundant from my Job so was out of work, I saw an advertisement on a social media platform which stated become a Personal Trainer with an Advanced 24+ Learner Loan. I decided to take the plunge and apply for the funding, this was approved and I had a place on the course. There the journey began. One of the major factor in my decision to apply for the funding was that I missed playing Rugby and wanted to get fit enough to be able to play again. As you can imagine being a full time manager in the hospitality industry is demanding with long and unsocial hours, this taking away the time I would normally be training or playing rugby with game mainly on a weekend, the busiest time of the week for most public houses.
The Road to becoming a PT
I had my place on the course and the work books arrived within a few weeks, I was given 1 year to complete using an online platform, work books and desk based tutor who I could contact for support. I open up the workbooks and had a look through them, It was daunting to say the least there was Level 2 Anatomy & Physiology, Level 2 Planning Gym Sessions, Level 2 Fitness Instructing, Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology, Level 3 Nutrition, level 3 Progamming PT Sessions with Clients, Delivering PT sessions with Clients Level 3 Business Planning. If that wasn't enough when I logged onto the online platform there was even more, 3 Core units consisting of Principles of Exercise, Health Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment, & Know How to Support Clients who take part in Exercise and Physical Activity, case studied in both Nutrition & Business Planning. On top of all that there was 3 CPD courses, Bootcamp & Circuits, Group Studio Cycling and Advanced Fitness Testing.I proceeded to print off the additional workbooks required for the Level 2 an put together a folder to work through. I worked my way through the level 2 workbooks and in June I attended a 4 day practical workshop in Leeds, Following the workshop I was booked in for a practical assessment in July where I had to plan a training session for a client using all the knowledge I had learned from the workbooks and the workshop, I used my Brother in Law as my Guinea Pig. We attended the assessment which I was very nervous as I was not used to being watched while I am being assessed, once I stated I became more confident and after about 40 minutes we had finished and on our way home with the slip of paper that said PASSED.I had a short break with the family following the assessment, on return it was time to start on the Level 3 workbooks, while I was doing this I met with a business consultant on 1st August from the local council to discuss how I set up my own business. The next day I started my business with a small loan from my dad I set about purchasing equipment, insurance, logo, uniform & Business Cards and set up my social media platforms and website. I posted on social media and had a meeting with a potential client the following day, the business card came a few days later with the uniforms so I went on a business card drop around Sowerby Bridge hitting Beauty Salons, Tattoo Studios, Photographers and other similar business, This gained me my second client. I applied for a voluntary role as a fitness instructor at a local charity which run a fitness centre and started there in late August. My level 3 was coming along now and I attended another 4 day workshop in October and Had my assessment in November using the same Guinea Pig again passing to become a fully qualified PT. I had completed my course 5 months early. In between passing the Level 2 & 3 I attended 2 CPD Coursed each consisting of 2 days each these were Bootcamp & Circuits, Group Studio Cycling in which I passed both. In March 2017 I attended the 1 day CPD Advanced Fitness Testing again with a pass.
What Next ?
I am still working for the charity as a volunteer in return for this I can use the facility as my PT base. I have a contract with the local council as a Casual Gym Instructor.I am currently doing another CPD TRX suspension training and am looking into doing a Level 4 in Strength & Conditioning.I am also thinking about doing my Rugby league coaching qualifications and working with juniors
