General information

We are one of the longest established game-angling clubs in the North East of England. We offer over 16 miles of excellent fishing on the middle reaches of the River Wear. Considered by the Environment Agency to be the best sea-trout river in England the River Wear also has a significant run of salmon as well as high quality brown trout and grayling fishing.
Sea trout start to enter the River Wear in late spring with small runs of larger migratory fish. The main runs occur from early summer, reaching their peak in the autumn months. The present club record for sea trout is 14lb and fish over 7lb taken regularly throughout the season.

Salmon fishing is usually most productive during September and October, although fish can be caught as early as June. The average salmon caught is around 10lb, rising to 20lb and above.

The Club tries to accommodate most anglers by allowing a range of fishing methods, including spinning and worm, although most members find that fly fishing gives the best results.
