Reflexology – What Is It?
Reflexology is a holistic therapy, where the term 'holistic' refers to the whole or whole person.

Reflexology is carried out on the feet. The feet contain many nerve endings. Reflexology is based on the principle that by working on these nerve endings in the feet it can stimulate nervous impulses and help the body and mind to re-balance itself. Most of our bodies are not balanced simply from the busy and stressful lives we all lead.

In Reflexology the feet are described as being a mirror of the body. The right foot corresponds to the right side of the body and the left foot to the left side, with the big toe on each foot being viewed or mirrored as the head.

Treatment
A treatment will last about 45 minutes. The first appointment can take up to 60 minutes as the therapist will take a detailed consultation first to help learn more about the client and which areas of the foot to pay close attention to.

To start the treatment a foot massage will be given. This enables the client to get used to the pressure and touch of the Reflexologist. During the session the reflexologist will use her thumb and fingers to 'walk' over the feet and work on all of the foot.

The biggest benefit of Reflexology is that no clothing has to be removed, just shoes and socks. It can be done wherever there is a quiet place.

A reflexologist is not trained to diagnose or to cure a problem, but Reflexology can certainly give the body and mind a large help hand in re-balancing itself.

How Many Treatments?
A course of 6 treatments is recommended. After 3-4 treatments results can be seen. After that it is recommended to have a treatment every 4-6 weeks to help keep everything at an optimum level.

How Will I Feel During And After A Treatment?
During the treatment you may feel so relaxed that you fall asleep. Alternatively you may feel very alert and wide awake.

After the treatment again you may feel very relaxed or wide awake. It is possible after a treatment you symptoms may feel worse. This is known as a 'healing crisis'. This is just where the treatment has activated your body into re-balancing itself and is eliminating toxins from your body. After a day or two you should then begin to feel positive effects from the treatment.

It is advisable that after the treatment to drink plenty of water, as this will help to flush out toxins. To eat a light meal and to avoid alcohol, spicy food and caffeine.
