'Pilgrim Home: In search of Scrooby Manor' offers a unique insight into the story of the Pilgrims and their English origins. Scrooby Village was the birthplace of Mayflower Pilgrim William Brewster, a seminal member of the Plimoth Colony and its spiritual leader. He is also attributed to writing the Mayflower Compact, commonly viewed as the first written democratic document in the United States of America. British filmmaker Jane Williams has gained exclusive access to Scrooby and its Manor, using it to create a visually stunning picture.
Scrooby Manor was once a magnificent Archbishop's palace and was even briefly owned by King Henry VIII. Many wonder—was Scrooby Manor also where persecuted separatists, the Brewsters, William Bradford and others, desperately sought sanctuary and gathered to worship before fleeing an oppressive England? All that remains of the Manor is a rambling farmhouse that has incredibly escaped any real investigation for over a century.
Pilgrim Home follows the journey of the Dunstans, the Manor’s owners, together with Sue Allan, the Manor’s official historian, as they explore its hidden history. New research is revealed and exciting discoveries made. Scrooby Manor shares the Pilgrim story of fear, secrecy, betrayal, escape, opportunity, and new beginnings.
