General information

On a typical day all children, Acorns (2-3 year olds) and Oak Trees (pre-schoolers) enjoy free flow activities including painting, construction and role play. Adult led activities such as exploring musical instruments, counting and ordering numbers, mark making, exploring outdoors are planned weekly following the early years foundation stage framework (EYFS) encouraging learning through play.

Oak Trees take part in the Letters and Sounds high quality phonics programme. Phase one of letters and sounds concentrates on developing communication, language and literacy skills and lays the foundation for phonic work which starts in reception. The activities in phase one are mainly adult-led with the intention of getting children attuned to sounds around them and ready to begin oral segmenting and blending of familiar words.

In addition to the letters and sounds activities the Oak Trees also have the opportunity each week to practice their mark making skills in small groups and borrow books to take home.

We employ a link book scheme to record the individual children’s achievements and enables two-way communication between parents/carers and key workers.

We operate a Snack Cafe system which is open for half (an) hour each morning where children are encouraged to help themselves to fruit and refreshments. The Snack Cafe opening and closing bell is rang by a nominated child each day.
