General information

Baby swimming is an amazing experience to share with your child and the benefits of teaching your baby to swim are numerous.

For parent and baby:
Through coming to structured progressive classes, it provides a parent with the necessary support to enable them to relax and enjoy the experience
Good baby swimming teachers are trained to understand the needs of both parent and baby, and are also qualified in lifesaving and resuscitation skills
Plenty of eye contact and skin contact provides an excellent way to bond with your baby
Parents who can’t swim can enjoy relaxing in the water with their baby
The emphasis is on fun
It is socially stimulating (for both you and your baby!) as you will meet other like minded parents and your child will begin to make new friends through regular contact each lesson

For baby:
It teaches your baby an important skill that could potentially save their life
It develops water confidence in a fun and safe environment
Swimming gives babies free movement, meaning they can develop actions they wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to experience
Swimming is excellent for improving core muscle development and coordination and despite the relatively gentle structure of the lessons, each provides a complete physical work-out: strengthening your baby’s heart, lungs and respiratory system – which aids development of the brain
Regular swimming often improves eating and sleeping patterns
Encouraging a baby to take regular exercise from such a young age is an extremely healthy routine to instill
Learning to respond to commands can make your baby sharper mentally, increasing levels of awareness and understanding
But most importantly of all, baby swimming should develop a love of water for the rest of your child’s life
