South Bedfordshire Friends of the Earth Company Information
General information
SBFOE have achieved a lot since it was established. Here are some of our past achievements:
• We are responsible for setting up the Dash Direct bus service and improving public transport information.
• We have created 17 bee friendly habitats across the town in partnership with Leighton Linslade Town Council, Central Bedfordshire Council, the Greensand Trust, local residents, schools, town centre retailers and local businesses.
• Leighton Buzzard is a national case study for helping bees, http://www.wildlifetrusts.org/bees-needs/casestudies.
• We have campaigned to support and promote the town centre, indented shops, and the farmers the farmers market opposing successfully out of town retail parks.
• On climate change we successfully campaigned for the wind farm at Biggleswade and the existing turbine at Heath and Reach and are campaigning for a second wind turbine as well as supporting the low carbon Leighton Linslade initiative.
• We engage young people in nature and the environment through work in schools and local bee friendly sites, and we inspire and help adults to support nature.
• We were responsible for persuading our MPs to vote for the UK’s own climate change act in 2008 and for the Household recycling act in 2003 which is why we have our recycling collected by the council.
