Brighton Open Air Theatre Company Information
General information
Adrian Bunting was a showman, artist & builder who died from pancreatic cancer in May 2013 only 6 weeks after diagnosis. This project combines all of his talents into a gift to Brighton & Hove. It is both a legacy & resource for our community, and a new and exciting performance venue for the city.
Adrian designed the ampitheatre & identified an ideal park location. His friends have formed BOAT into a CIO, secured planning permission and lease for the theatre in his ideal location - the old bowling green at Dyke Road Park. The BOAT committee and friends and supporters have raised an additional £90k to Adrian's life savings of £20k.
Brighton Open Air Theatre (BOAT) is run by the city’s creative community for the benefit of residents and visitors. It is a seasonal venue for outdoor performance, spoken word, debate and occasional screenings.
The BOAT will operate from the beginning of May to the end of September each year and will provide a space for local artists alongside national touring productions.
The design of the theatre includes a ‘thrust’ stage, projecting out into the audience and bringing actor and spectator together in a more direct communication.
Brighton has a great history of producing ground-breaking outdoor work & has an internationally recognised expertise in its artists and technicians in staging and running outdoor productions.
With your support, BOAT is open for business. The dream is real. Let's make it magnificent.
