Systema South West

General information

We are Systema South West and are based out of Exeter in Devon, where we offer classes in Russian Systema, a martial art used by the Spetsnaz. We welcome both men and women aged 14 years and over, to learn self defence, health practices, gain confidence and to develop your inner strength.

Systema is accessible to everyone regardless of ability and is considered to be non-destructive. The objective is to ensure your attitude and training strengthens your body, your psyche, your family and your country, therefore also taking consideration to not damage the psyche or body of your partners. Systema is more than just physical movements, but is rather built upon mental strength and awareness, enabled through developing ones character and natural movement. Systema is designed to help build and instil warrior spirit.

The 4 main principles of Systema are: Breathing, Relaxation, Form and Movement, and our goal is to bring Systema to the South West of England, allowing it to enhance your physical & mental health, self-confidence and well-being.

Systema is not a sport and is designed for real combat, quick learning and to work under stressful, real life situations. We therefore do not take part in any competitions or have restrictions and rules. Our movements are our own spontaneous creation, originating from our own natural form.
