5th Wiltshire B-P Scouts Group

General information

Thank you for visiting the 5th Wiltshire B-P Scout Group which provides outdoor based scouting activities across the Tidworth Community area.

We are members of the Baden-Powell Scout Association (B-PSA) which is a small but rapidly growing national scouting organisation that places children and their development through outdoor adventure at the heart of what we do matching the original aims and ideas of our founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell whose name we were granted permission to use by his widow.

We currently run five sections in the Group:

Beavers for Ages 6 to 8 - Tuesdays 5.30 to 7pm
Wolf Cubs for Ages 8 to 11 - Mondays 6 to 8pm
Scouts for Ages 11 to 15 - Wednesdays 7 to 9 pm
Senior Scouts for Ages 15 to 18 - Wednesdays 7 to 9pm
Rover Scouts for Ages 18 to 100+ - Monthly

We currently have waiting lists in all sections except Rovers until we can recruit more adult leaders. The B-PSA respects integrity and traditional values using thoroughly modern equipment, technology and ideas. Our programme is based around five key areas:

- Development of young people through outdoor adventures and experiences
- Building young people through teamwork and leadership experiences
- Growing confidence and skills through a staged skills based badge programme
- Service to others and the community
- Establishing self respect and respect for others

We are an outdoor group and typically hold at least 12 camps across the sections each year. We also attend Area Events with our fellow B-PSA Groups across the Salisbury Plain Area and attend the National and International Jamborees which are available to ALL our members age 8 and up - no selection weekends!

5th Wiltshire is one of several B-PSA Groups with very close relationships with the Army across Salisbury Plain. Other Groups operate in Warminster and Bulford.

Uniformed Adult Leaders will receive free uniform*, free training (inc transport costs) as well as employment enhancing First Aid At Work (FAW) and Food Hygiene certificate training. All our leaders are also trained through hands on activities in a wide range of practical outdoor skills ranging from camping and pioneering to hill walking leadership.

Our National Association also offers a Bursary scheme which will provide successful applicants with up to £500 towards course fees for a leader to be trained in an outdoor sport or activity and get their national coaching 'ticket'. This could be in sports such as Canoeing, Archery, Shooting, Climbing, Mountaineering, Caving or similar.

As we are an outdoor based organisation the 5th Wiltshire are also a registered Duke of Edinburgh centre and can assess and provide virtually all stages of this renowned awards scheme internally - everything except the final Gold Expedition which is held at a National event.
