General information

I tell the following particulars, as nearly as I can recollect them, in the words of the narrator.

In looking through the belongings of my late and respected friend, her name I shall keep private, and who for nearly eighty years discharged the dangerous duties to a local priest, I came across the following object.

The object had many myths and
superstitions surrounding it and my friend took great delight in disclosing the dark and wicked details of those stories in
secretive whispers late at night on the very rare occasions when we found ourselves alone. And although I wholly consider
myself a man of science, the tales that shrouded the object left an uneasy knot in my stomach.

So as I stood with the dark box in my hand, suspecting that inside was the source of so much unholy love, a love that drove the few that who gazed upon it, the unfortunate, or fortunate as some would have me believe, into a state of wild mad ecstasy that would render it impossible for them to return to their natural state of sanity. I noted the knot in my abdomen tighten, my breath had become shallow and my heart now had begun to beat a new rhythm

As I opened the box I immediately became strangely fixated upon the simple, yet
beautifully hand crafted and exquisite piece of jewellery and I knew immediately that all the stories that she had recanted to me of this strange and beautiful object were no longer falsehoods, they were utterly true.
