My name is Marianne Sharpe, soft tissue and massage therapist. I have been working in Sports for 30 years, as athlete, coach, and now massage therapist.

Sports related

There can be a number of reasons why we experience aches and pains, or lack of progression in our daily activities or sports. Lack of movement, tension or pain might be caused or aggravated by soft tissue injury. Sports massage is not only about feeling good, it is also helps you to maintain your optimal performance and can help prevent further injury. This is done by assessing what you do and where you feel your pain, then by using appropriate techniques that will help your muscles perform more smoothly and optimally for the demands you want to put them through. I can also help to correct muscle imbalances that may have developed over a period of time and help you increase your awareness of your body and range of movement, which encourages muscles to react more efficiently to the demands of your sport. This also helps improve posture and performance.

Non-sports related

Massage can be beneficial in promoting healing and functioning related to illness, impairment or disability. Massage relieves pain and increases movement. I can help you develop greater flexibility and motion and increase muscle function. I can help weaker muscles to support areas of pain. Massage improves your energy levels, and recovery times are reduced, for instance following medical treatment. Most importantly, relieving pain and improving circulation makes you feel good!

Massage is not always appropriate at every stage of treatment, so if in doubt we will seek specialist advice. Massage often complements other medical treatments.
