Yacht sailing experience on the sea on the north west coast of England. RYA sailing courses for beginners to advanced on Morecambe Bay in Lancashire with stunning views of the Lake District hills.

The best way to learn to sail is on a small boat rather than a large cruising yacht. If it's yacht cruising that you want to do, it's easier to learn the basics on a small yacht first. The RYA has created a series of 2-day learn to sail courses specially for beginners. Many people refer to it as the dinghy scheme and acknowledge it's the best way to start sailing. Bay Sea School is unique on the North West coast. They are the only RYA training centre in the area teaching these excellent RYA beginner sailing courses on a small yacht on the sea. Adult beginners of all ages appreciate learning to sail on a keelboat - a small yacht with a fixed keel.

Please note - the RYA Competent Crew course syllabus is different to the RYA Start Sailing & Basic Skills course. On Competent Crew you'll experience life aboard a cruising yacht and learn many things about how to be a useful member of the crew. But if you want to learn to sail this isn't the quickest route!

At Bay Sea School the beginners course is split into two modules; Start Sailing Level 1 & Basic Skills Level 2. It takes 4 days of tuition to cover all the basics of the beginners yacht sailing course on the sea.

The next stage in learning to sail is another 2-day course called Better Sailing Level 3. You can do it as many times as you like to boost your confidence. It's a useful way to get more practical sailing experience in tidal waters too. A popular choice for inland dinghy sailors wanting to move up to yacht sailing on the sea it's also a great way to get back into sailing again.

Further advanced sailing courses are available. Shore-based courses include VHF radio, Radar, Diesel, First Aid, Day Skipper, Yachtmaster, Ocean, RYAInteractive: CEVNI, Essential Navigation & Seamanship, Professional Practices and Responsibilities.
