Rowan's Wroxham Cottage Company Information
General information
The Peninsula cottages are situated on the The River Bure. The bridge at Wroxham is the start of one of the busiest stretches of water on the Norfolk Broads - the stretch of river between Wroxham and Horning. This is because Wroxham is the start of many boating holidays, organised boat trips and day-boat hire. Wroxham has plenty of facilities, including the famous Roys, the world's largest village store!
The Broads have long been a boating and holiday destination; Wroxham railway station opened in 1874, followed just four years later by one of the very first boatyards to offer sailing boats for weekly hire to holidaymakers. This pioneering hireboat yard was established by John Loynes and operated from a site immediately adjacent to where the Peninsula cottages are now located
The neighbouring towns of Wroxham and Hoveton are known as the ‘Capital of the Broads’ and are linked by the iconic medieval Wroxham Bridge.
The riverside Peninsula site is only a short distance from the bridge and – crucially – is on the ‘downstream’ side; The bridge itself is famously low and something of a navigation hazard to larger boats – watching the intricate manoeuvrings of many assorted craft can be a very entertaining spectacle for Peninsula guests on a summer afternoon!
