Hi, I’m Phil Smith and I’ve been a fully qualified Driving Standards Agency and Isle of Man Government Driving Instructor for 4 years. I had a passion for cars and driving from an early age and was desperate to get on the road and pass my test when I turned 17. After several years of working in the transport industry, I decided it was time to share this passion and to train others to get on the road. This has turned out to be the perfect job for me!

My great pass rate and my fun and friendly approach to lessons has led to me gaining a strong reputation and I am committed to ensuring my success continues!

I can give lessons at a time that is convenient for you and am available during the evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. I offer the following lessons, with sessions tailored to meet your own individual needs.

My aim is to develop safe and confident drivers, and my lessons are planned to suit the individual’s needs. I teach both the young, enthusiastic, raring to go and the more mature pupils who are struggling to come to terms with the changes in the roads over the years. So whether you are one of these or you fall somewhere in the middle, I’ll tailor an interactive and fun course individually designed for you. I understand you might be apprehensive about starting to learn to drive but, driving can open all sorts of avenues. My Lessons will help give you the knowledge and confidence to succeed, so that you can enjoy one of life’s ultimate freedoms.

Experience

I was trained and qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) in the busy city of Leeds. I then taught people of all ages and abilities for a year in York before moving to the Isle of Man with my wife, who is Manx. I have been teaching here now for 3 years and, at 29, I am one of the islands youngest instructors, so can relate to young learners. I instruct in a fun, friendly but professional manner and I use the skills I developed when teaching in the UK to best prepare complete beginners and experienced learners for driving on and off the island.
