General information
While there are those who encourage us to forget the past, it is, in fact, our history that unites us. The IDA is dedicated to keeping history alive and part of the human experience. Our chief tool in this endeavor is photo documentation through our Million Image Database project. We are in the process of archiving at-risk sites throughout the Middle East and North Africa. To that end, we are distributing portable, discreet 3D cameras to volunteers in the conflict zones.
However, more images means a more comprehensive archive. And so we are asking for your help! We need you to share photos, articles, field notes and stories relating to endangered archaeological sites. They will be added to our online database and be completely accessible to all. This is not just a project for academics and researchers, but one in which casual visitors to ancient sites can play a crucial role, as well.
The Million Image Database can succeed only as a global collaboration. We're working with partners all around the world, including UNESCO, DGAM, US/ICOMOS and leading universities, including Oxford, Harvard and the University of Massachusetts. The program is the proud recipient of the Apollo 2015 Award for Digital Innovation. Please be part of documenting our shared human past.
