Life Skills Education Charity Company Information
General information
Our Drug Abuse Resistance Education programme (D.A.R.E.) has been delivered by us in England since 1994 and to British Forces children overseas for over 10 years. D.A.R.E. started life as a partnership between Nottinghamshire Police and Mansfield District Council. Through necessity D.A.R.E. grew into its own company with the support of those organisations becoming Life Skills Community Interest Company in 2011 and more recently gained Charitable status.
We design, update and deliver the D.A.R.E. programme which is aimed at pupils aged 9-16 years, across the whole of England, who are susceptible to becoming addicted to or dependent upon drugs, alcohol or tobacco. By developing decision making skills needed to make informed decisions we help the young people who go through our programme to achieve their full potential, making safe and healthy choices around risky behaviours. We also train teachers to deliver our programme and supply evaluated resources for them to use. Nearly 400,000 young people have graduated from a D.A.R.E. programme and we have a proven track record of delivery in 280 English Schools, and Schools in Germany, Cyprus and the Falkland’s.
The D.A.R.E. programme itself was born in 1983 in Los Angeles and has proven so successful it is now being delivered in 75% of U.S. school districts and in more than 43 countries worldwide.
