General information

The School of English, Communication and Philosophy (ENCAP) is one of the University's largest academic schools, with over a thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students studying across English Language, English Literature, Communication, Creative Writing and Philosophy. We are an international student community including 50+ full-time academic staff, plus a dedicated team of professional services staff. While possessing the intellectual and resourcing advantages of a large multidisciplinary School, we are far from anonymous. All of our staff, pride themselves on nurturing a friendly, personalised and supportive environment for our students, which is recognised in our very high ratings in successive National Student Surveys.

Our key undergraduate subjects are English Language, English Literature, and Philosophy. Our teaching methods include lectures and seminars and academic progress meetings with staff. While each programme has its own distinct content and character, we seek to give all students the same quality of experience so that they pursue their interests and develop their potential to the highest level.
