St Colmcilles Parish Company Information
General information
Scouts range from 11 to 15 years of age. Scouting started out of the Scout section so it stands to reason that we have some serious fun in Scouts. A Spirit of Adventure is what drives the Scout Section to challenge the scouts to try new things, encourage them to try to be more responsible, try more things as a team and develop leadership skills. Scouts in the 11th can expect to camp, hike, canoe, learn how to cook and have loads of fun! They will camp throughout Ireland, GB and mainland Europe.
The Scout Method is in learning through doing and we believe that participation in Scouting is a worthwhile and enjoyable outlet for all young people.
We are a strong troop with years of experience of taking part in national events run by Scouting Ireland. We have attended Irish Jamborees (Jamborora '77, Portumna '85, Ballyfinn '93) and numerous Melvin and Phoenix competitions, achieving top ten placings on many occasions.
The Group also holds that Scouting should be accessible to young people of all backgrounds and from all parts of the community. The Troop is run by a range of experienced scouters, including: Niall Browne, Peter Lavery, Brendan Browne, Paul Browne, Matthew Dawson, Ciara McGuire and James Keane.
The Scouts meet every Friday evening during the academic year from 7pm - 9.30pm.
