We are committed to maintaining the fishery and protecting the unique natural heritage of the catchment. Not only do we willingly accept responsibility for protecting this unique resource in the "here and now", but River Faughan Anglers also accept responsibility for its bequest in terms of local heritage and environment, to future generations.

We urge anglers and other users of the countryside to be alert to any potential dangers to the environment and to report all pollution incidents, and indeed any incidents of poaching or illegal fishing. We are the custodians of the river and take this responsibility seriously, and we expect all anglers to behave in a responsible way at all times, in terms of their sport, and in terms of the environment.

History of the Faughan Anglers

The current organisation evolved from the Faughan Anglers Association, an angling club with several hundred members which dissolved in 1995 to form a company limited by guarantee, with four officers of the club becoming the founder members of the company.
There has been a club or association on the Faughan for perhaps 50 years, originally renting the rights on the tidal section of the river from the Foyle Fisheries Commission (now the Loughs Agency). The freshwater section could be fished by permit from the Honourable the Irish Society. Eventually the Faughan Anglers negotiated a lease for the entire freshwater section from the Irish Society, which also guarantees access/trespass rights. Thus with the tidal section the entire river and its tributaries came under the control of a single entity.
