The UVG (Urban Vocal Group) was formed in February 2008, its aim is to encourage and develop vocal and performance skills in young people whilst also enabling them to express themselves in a positive way. Our objective was to offer a local opportunity for young people to access FREE professional vocal tuition and ultimately feel part of a unique singing community.

The ethos of the group stems from its determination not to be a identified solely as a choir hence 'the Urban Vocal Group'. The repertoire is contemporary as is the singing styles and young people are encouraged to find their own voice within the ensemble. As we have expanded we now provide opportunities for singers to write and record their own material to support them as emerging artists.

The UVG became a registered charity in 2013 and secured funding to set up new groups. Membership has steadily increased and we currently have 70 + young people regularly attending our weekly sessions .The group is made up of both male and female singers from across the borough with ages ranging from 11 to 18 and we have performed over 90 times at venues across the region.

After a successful 9 years the UVG have established themselves as one of the South's premier vocal groups and largest attended cmusic making charities for young people. If you are interested in finding out more about the groups please contact us at
