We are one of the leading medical schools in the UK providing a broad education for the study of health and disease.
More than 5,000 aspiring doctors apply to us every year. Our Bachelor of Medicine degrees are of the highest quality, supported by a culture that engages and challenges students and staff. Undergraduates gain clinical experience from year one, and are based at our modern facilities at Highfield campus and Southampton General Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the region.
We have an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to research, with an international reputation in a range of areas as diverse as cancer, asthma and nutrition. We have strong research partnerships with charities, health, pharma, private enterprise and academic institutions worldwide. Our research, led by world-renowned scientists, often combines life sciences with physical sciences, engineering, electronics, computer science and mathematics, crossing the boundaries of traditional disciplines.
We are building a thriving and successful enterprise agenda that is helping to inform our education and transform our research. Already the University's discoveries have led to five spin-out companies in Medicine, two of which have a market worth of around £75 million.
