Emery Walker Trust Company Information
General information
7HT is currently closed to visitors until 2017 so that we can undertake refurbishment and building works as part of our Arts and Crafts Hammersmith project, which is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The works commenced in early spring 2016 and the restored house will re-open for visitors in early 2017. Bookings will be taken in advance from late 2016.
No. 7 Hammersmith Terrace is the last authentic Arts & Crafts interior in Britain and the former home of Emery Walker; typographer, antiquary and friend and mentor to William Morris.
The sober Georgian exterior of our tall terraced house on the River Thames at Hammersmith, west London, hides a secret; its interior is an Arts & Crafts gem, with the decoration and furnishings preserved as they were in the lifetime of the printer Emery Walker who lived here from 1903-1933.
As you enter 7 Hammersmith Terrace you will discover wallpapers and carpets by William Morris, furniture and glassware by Philip Webb and embroidery by May Morris. This is to name but a few of the protagonists who, through their close friendships with Emery Walker, have helped to create the lively and beautiful interiors you can still experience today.
