Creative Barking and Dagenham

General information

The Creative Barking & Dagenham programme is bringing artists together with local communities for exciting creative adventures and experiments that aim to leave a lasting positive legacy in the area. It will take place from 2014 to 2016 and will include:

• A Commissioned Programme of arts activities, projects and events in landmarks, neighbourhoods and parks across Barking & Dagenham, selected by and co-created with local communities

• An Audience Development Programme which will help promote the great arts activities already taking place in the borough and facilitate access to the wider cultural offer across London for local residents.

• A ‘People Going Places’ bursaries programme designed to strengthen the local arts sector

• A ‘Cultural Connectors’ development and training programme for local residents

Barking and Dagenham has a rich heritage of making things and trading across the world. It’s a place of great dynamism and change and has a vibrant amateur and self organised arts scene.

The Creative Barking & Dagenham programme is a wonderful chance for the people of the area to create an artistic programme which puts it on the cultural map, attracting new visitors, raising aspirations and creating local opportunities.

The programme is generously funded by the Arts Council’s ‘Creative People and Places’ fund and Barking & Dagenham Council.
