Story. When Christian Dior revolutionised the way women dressed in the Fifties his waspwaisted jackets and ample skirts were the epitome of Parisian chic. However it is quite likely that they were made in a back-street in Barking East London in the factory of Gloria Fashions. Dior is just one of a string of high-profile designers who have had their garments manufactured by the company. Founded in 1956 Gloria Fashions was named after the sister of the two founding brothers Robert and George King. Today Robert's son David is in charge. Sworn to secrecy. For one London based designer store group we usually do a run of about 1 000 per style and for a top end British label about 250. But we are not making their whole ranges. We do specialise in high quality garments. For one leading British designer we'd do 30 in each style. One problem is that all the designers insist on us ensuring that no-one else see their samples.
