Fluid Structures Ltd Company Information
General information
Fluid Structures is an award winning Engineering practice that works closely with creative Architects and Designers. The practice was set up in 1999 and has carried out projects that range from £50K extensions to £100 million retail/ commercial schemes.
The practice was set up in November 1999 by David Crookes (on his kitchen table) and he was shortly joined by Kate Carpenter, a Part 1 Graduate in Architecture. Within six months, John Graham had come on board and formed the nucleus of the practice.
The practice is split up into small groups of 2 - 3 people, comprising of Engineers and sometimes others with design-related backgrounds. This allows for a good support network as well as the chance for people to take responsibility early on. We encourage people to stretch themselves and use their skills to resolve challenging projects.
"Fluid see engineering differently to many other engineers, who simply apply known knows. They see engineering as a constant search for solutions, an adventure or exploration into the unknown. Their work is a wonderful combination of art and mathematics; it defines the line where art meets science and where the poetic meets the intrinsic properties of materials."
