General information

Philippa Devas, a member of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID), is an experienced interior designer whose distinctive style blends traditional with contemporary; old with new. Having worked for Percy Bass and then as an assistant to Chester Jones at Colefax & Fowler, and then for Chester’s own company, Philippa honed her natural talent and eye for space, proportion, light and texture.

Devas Designs was established in 1998 and since then Philippa has worked on many diverse projects from large country houses to contemporary London flats, carving out a successful niche for the company.

In 2006 she was placed in the House & Garden Directory of the 100 Leading Interior Designers and retained that accolade in the directory update in 2009. Philippa creates interiors combining practicality with a chic, muted style and works closely with clients using existing architectural elements as a starting point focusing on ‘the bones’ of a room.

One of her recent projects was featured in the August 2011 issue of House & Garden, which showcases the owner’s beautiful antique furniture, tapestries, objets d’art and Old Master drawings.

Philippa believes that ‘decoration should be a backdrop for works of art’.
