Women + Health is a community-based health centre that delivers affordable complementary therapies and counselling to women and their families.
Women + Health has successfully been providing affordable complementary health treatments and counselling for women and their families in Camden for over 20 years, empowering women to maintain their wellbeing.

Women + Health promotes wellbeing for women and their families through a wide range of services.
The Organisation is committed to providing counselling and complementary therapies to women who experience economic, environmental and social exclusion.

Who W+H is aimed at

We seek to deliver an integrated healthcare service responsive to the needs of women and their families, prioritising the most vulnerable and disadvantaged local women. The organisation also promotes a broader awareness of women's health issues and aims to empower women to engage in their wellbeing.

Our aim is to create an integrated complementary and alternative healthcare service responsive to the needs of local women, while encouraging and facilitating a broader awareness of women's health issues, and promoting innovative ways of approaching healthcare. Our priority clients are those Camden women most disadvantaged and marginalised. We recognise that many women try to cope with issues that impact on their health, while often finding it hard to prioritise their own well-being. We aim to empower women to take responsibility for their own health.

Women + Health has for many years successfully supported women through crisis to wellbeing, by providing affordable counselling, complementary health treatments, health classes and outreach services.
While our priority clients are those Camden women most disadvantaged and marginalised, at Women + Health we recognise that many women live with stresses and strains that impact on their health, often finding it hard to prioritise their own wellbeing. We aim to empower women to engage with, and maintain, their own good health.

Women + Health supports some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged women in Camden, through providing a wide range of affordable, health-related services. Drawing on its broad knowledge and expertise, developed over 23 years, Women + Health is uniquely placed to deliver an integrated and holistic approach.

A community based health centre, Women + Health delivers affordable complementary therapies, exercise classes, health workshops and counselling to women and their families . Our integrated healthcare service responds to their needs by encouraging and facilitating awareness of women's health issues, and promoting effective and innovative ways of approaching healthcare. Our priority clients are the most disadvantaged and marginalised women and their families. Many women try to cope with a complexity of issues that impact on their health but find it hard to prioritise their own wellbeing. We aim to empower women by providing a comprehensive an exemplary health and wellness program. We support and resource women to take responsibility for their own health.
We offer many highly valued services for carers, the housebound, and for women with learning disabilities.

How it delivers its work

W+H also provides outreach care and projects, classes, groups, courses, a crèche and a GP advice clinic. Women + Health is committed to providing counselling and complementary therapies to women who experience economic, environmental and social exclusion. We provide accessible, affordable holistic healthcare to women.

At Women + Health we have a dedicated team of CAM practitioners and counsellors who are willing to practice at very low rates in order to (support us to) provide an affordable service. All practitioners are professionally trained and regulated by their professional body, and commit to regular supervisions at the centre.

W+H has over 35 counsellors and over 40 complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practitioners providing treatments in a range of therapies, such as acupuncture, osteopathy, homeopathy, cranio-sacral therapy, Bowen Technique, kinesiology, nutritional therapy, reflexology, reiki, massage and shiatsu. There are also Travelling Therapies, classes, groups, courses, a crèche, community projects and a GP advice clinic.
W+H employs a small and committed staff of women whilst the practitioners provide their services at a lower rate than the market pays as they are committed to delivering help to women and their families who otherwise would not have access to this type of care.

Why there is a need

Services at W+H are affordable and accessible so that we fulfil our core aim: to empower women who are disadvantaged and marginalized to take responsibility for their own health. The physical and mental health problems of women in Camden have not diminished since W+H was founded in 1986, though they have certainly changed, and we fill the gaps which inevitably arise in NHS, Camden Council and voluntary sector provision. Yet we also aspire to make a difference in ongoing debates about the interface between traditional and complementary medicine; and to offer a model for other health-providers and charities in the delivery of user-focused services.
