General information

WEN works to address the following problems:

1. Lack of environmental organisations addressing women’s issues.
WEN is known as a resource for information on topics that are rarely addressed by other organisations, for example, the environmental and health impacts of sanitary products, incontinence pads and nappies, links between the environment and breast cancer, chemicals in cosmetics, and the gender specific impacts of climate change.

2. Lack of involvement of hard-to-reach women in environmental education and action.
WEN aims to engage with issues of diversity in the environmental movement to include hard-to-reach BME women who are often disconnected and excluded from environmental decision-making

3. Women’s under-representation in decision-making positions
Just 22% of MPs in the UK are female. Of delegates at the UN Conference on Climate Change in Nov 2009, 30% were women. WEN believes that women from all walks of life must have an equal voice at the policy level if real change is to be made in addressing environmental, health and social problems.
