Equinox Sailing

General information

Equinox Sailing are an RYA Sailing School and offer a flexible approach to learning to sail in a safe and relaxed learning environment; so that you learn in way that works for you.
We don’t pigeon-hole – we fit our tuition and development to your individual needs.
Once you have gained a qualification we offer development programmes for skippers and crew to keep skills current and upto date.

Meet the team

Simon Wilson
Principle/Chief Instructor
Simon has been sailing for most of his life and started racing in Mirror and Laser dinghy’s at both club and national level.
After managing bars and restaurants in his native Northern Ireland he moved to Cork to pursue his dream of working in the sailing industry. Once qualified as a RYA Yachtmaster, dinghy and powerboat instructor Simon worked as a Senor instructor in West Cork, before moving to Tenerife to teach in the sun.
Since returning to the UK in 2010 Simon been working as a freelance instructor and delivery skipper, before setting up Equinox Sailing in 2012.
Teaching in different sailing school and different parts of the world has allowed Simon to have an adaptable and varied teaching style that inspires confidence in his students, as well as allowing him to clock thousands of offshore miles.

When not teaching Simon competes in inshore racing such asCowes Week, Hamble Winter Series and Warsash Spring series and RORC offshore races

Nick Woolven
Owner/Skipper of Team Rho
A runner turned sailor, Nick got into sailing due to his participation in the 3 Peaks Yacht Race. Nick learnt that racing made sailing interesting and the number of variables made it physically and intellectually challenging.
Nick has competed in the Warsash Spring and Winter Series for the last three years and the Fastnet in 2011.

Team Rho finished in a respectable third place overall (and second place in the Tilman Trophy) in the 2012 Three Peaks Yacht Race. Read Nick’s race report for an in depth account of the race.

Marie Davies
Director/Novice sailor
New to sailing, Marie has been caught by the racing bug. Behind the scenes, she is the Equinox Sailing administration and support.
