PRI Academy The PRI Academy was developed to provide industry leading training for financial services, corporate and other professionals needing to understand how environmental, social and governance issues are impacting company performance, shareholder value and investment decision making. The Academy's global curriculum creates a body of knowledge and common language designed to up-skill teams and professionals across investment and capital markets. The Academy, content creation Centre is responsible for developing our curricula and ensuring that the Academy's online instructional content is of the highest standard to allow for bet possible learning outcomes. Responsible Investment Responsible Investment describes a process where environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues are incorporated into investment decisions. Responsible Investment has entered into the mainstream of global finance, reflecting a paradigm shift in awareness about the impact of E,S and G issues on company and shareholder value. Whether it be the ‘big issues’ we faces (GFC impacts, climate change and low carbon re0industrialisation, shift in power from ‘west to east’ food, water and energy security etc.), or company specific disasters (news Corp, Lehman Brother, AIG, TEPCT, BP to name just a few) – ESG issues are now front and centre. Environmental Issues Broadly speaking, environmental issues arise from, or impact on, ecosystems and ecosystems services. All investment decisions are ultimately dependent on natural resources factors and related ecosystems. Social Issues Social issues impact on, or arise from, the individual or societies within which a company operates. Why are social issues important? Corporations are increasingly becoming aware that their participation in social development is not only a civic responsibility, but also benefit adversely impact their bottom line. Companies that do a better job of engaging with their internal and external stakeholders can manage a range of potential social issues more effectively. Governance Issues Corporate governance (CG) refers to the system by which organisations are directed and controlled. It is the process by which company objectives are established, achieved and monitored. It is also concerned with the relationships and responsibilities between a company’s board, management team, shareholders and other relevant stakeholders. Additionally, it encompasses the relations and responsibilities between a company, the environment and society. Corporate governance failures and its impact for company and shareholder value is a key consideration for investors in an increasingly complex, competitive and globalised economy.
