Shipton-under-Wychwood Cricket Club

General information

Shipton-Under-Wychwood Cricket Club is situated in Oxfordshire in the Cotswold's. We run 4 teams on a Saturday and also run a friendly side on a Sunday. Our club nights are on a Tuesday and Thursdays at the club where there is nets, coaching, fielding practice and the bar is usually open!

The 1st XI are in the Home Counties whilst are 2nd XI are in Division 4 of the Cherwell League, with the 3rd XI in Division 9 and a new 4th XI in Division 10. We also compete in the National Village Knockout where the Final is played at Lord's, and midweek knockout competitions.

The First XI won the National Village Knockout at Lords in both 2002 & 2003 and were Runners-Up in 2010 and 1997. They won the Cherwell League Division 1 Championship in 2011 and 2002. The Second XI won the Division 5 title in 2007, and back-to-back promotions to Division 3 in 2011. The 3rd XI won promotion for the first time from Division 10 as Champions in 2011, enabling us to start a 4th XI to continue the youth development of our club. Meanwhile the Over 40's side have been Oxfordshire Champions from 2007 through to 2011.

We also hold annual cricket events including an Inter-club Twenty20 Day, weekly events such as Quiz and Curry nights. Our annual Cricket Dinner and Awards Night is usually held in November.

There is a fantastic youth setup at Shipton, co-ordinated by Graham Nelson, and we have a Family Social Night every Friday during the summer where the kids (ages 10-16) get some coaching and kwik-cricket games whilst the parents can enjoy the barbeque and bar.

We also host Youth Coaching nights Monday (U13's), Wednesday (U15's) and Thursday (U17's). We also hold various coaching weeks through the summer, and are heavily involved in providing coaching to the local schools during the summer, as part of the Chance To Shine scheme. We have both boys and girls teams and have had a number of these young players break into the County and District setups. See the Youth Section of our website (www.shiptoncc.co.uk) for more details.

We are fully qualified ClubMark members, member ID 761.
