Our services
Did you know that most of our work takes place in people’s own homes? On any one day, we support around 650 people across the Island community, visiting them in their homes to help relieve physical and psychological symptoms, caring for them through the last years of life and supporting those around them to cope through their bereavement. We also have our own Domiciliary Care service, which helps people stay independent by providing personal care services such as help with dressing, washing and taking medication.
Backing up our community service is our 16-bed ward in our Newport hospice building where people are also provided with outstanding care and support. Additionally, our psychosocial and spiritual care team provides psychological support including pre and post bereavement support; our John Cheverton Centre, where we deliver a wide range of day and outpatient services, also offers a community space for social events, as well as rooms for patients to receive treatment, art and music therapy and a rehabilitation gym. We also have a team
of experts in end of life care based at St Mary’s Hospital which helps and supports patients to choose where they want to die and supports them to return home, or in some circumstances, come to the hospice as an inpatient, depending on their care needs. Our partnership with KissyPuppy, the Sophie Rolf Trust, enables us to provide inpatient and respite support to children coming to the end of their lives as well as support to their families. We also offer an Islandwide bereavement service for children, families and adults, for anyone who has been affected by death, wherever and however the death has occurred.
Our community
We are indebted to our Island community for its continuing support; whether that is through volunteering in our many roles throughout the organisation, supporting our ten shops, helping us at our many fundraising events, or directly running fundraising events on our behalf. We are very fortunate to have the support of over 500 volunteers who contribute to all areas of our work, from our shops to our ward and fundraising activities.
It costs around £7m a year to run our services and only 35% of our funding comes from the NHS. This means that our community raises an incredible amount every year; without your support we would not be able to provide our services for free across our Isle of Wight community.
Open to all!
Our doors are open to anyone to come and listen to live music concerts, see our art gallery, sing in our community choir, enjoy delicious food in our Sunflower Café, or to visit our beautiful gardens, which includes our award winning Chelsea Garden. Children can also enjoy our specially designed play area, and we offer a wide range of information regarding all aspects of end of life and bereavement.
