The Brick Project

General information

The Brick does not have any on-site accommodation but provides help and support to individuals who have had a direct experience of homelessness and rough sleeping, or problems relating to those issues. We address the issues of a client group that has a variety of complex needs. Issues such as long term health needs associated with substance misuse and unsettled lifestyle, psychiatric problems, institutionalized behaviour resulting from criminal lifestyles and prison time, as well as feelings of isolation and hopelessness are all part of the work. These problems cannot be solved by a single agency, and at every stage of the recovery journey there is a need for multi-agency consultancy. We operate the Brick as a community in recovery.
We have a dedicated team of outreach workers who work with people on the streets and help them to move to settled accommodation. This is not an easy task and takes many hours/days/weeks of patient persistence to be accepted.
Street sleepers are the hardest of all people to move on and it is sometimes assumed that we are doing nothing to help them. They will not just move into a home or a hostel because they are deeply suspicious of people's motives, having become accustomed to bad treatment over time.
