Stitchscape

General information

Hi. I'm Diane. I run this escape place for stitchers called Stitchscape. The studio has been set up with one major goal; to share a fully set up sewing studio with other stitchers. It provides a space and equipment and almost more importantly, other sew-a-holics who can share your love for all things stitchy and crafty.

So many stitchers have to use the dining room table as their sewing space and have the hassle of tidying it up every time they have a meal and have the ironing table out in the kitchen constantly. That's not ideal, as I'm aware from personal experience! Another reason some stitchers will want to use the studio club is because they just love being around other stitchers, so that they can talk to people who 'get' what they're on about completely. Only having workshops at certain times, doesn't suit everyone, as work/family commitments need a much more flexible approach. There are lockers in the studio too, so stitchers can nip in whenever they have an hour or two spare; get their latest project out of the locker and get on with sewing/knitting/crocheting etc

That's the basics of the studio but I also know that some people prefer to have one-off specific workshops to attend. There are workshops organised for that too.

I love all kinds of stitchy fun but mostly patchwork and quilting. I seem to find myself making many wall hangings at the moment, which is probably because in the studio, I like to make projects which people can look at and maybe be inspired and to make it clearly a happy place for stitchy escapees. My projects can include many kinds of mixed media of hand stitching, applique, machine embroidery and all kinds of fabric, beads and threads. I consider myself more of a modern quilter in my style. I absolutely love pattern and colour. I'm big into designers like Kaffe Fassett and Zandra Rhodes yet I also love Mandy Shaw's work and Corinne Lapierre and so many more besides.

I am passionate about helping us all to make the time to be creative; to lose the fear and let go of comparison. We have so many demands on our time but I firmly believe that once we are happy, we can have more success in our lives. The happiness comes first. Some of us prefer to create with the help of a pattern. Others of us like to 'free-wheel' it and the rest of us like to do a bit of a mix of both. We all need to give ourselves permission to enjoy and create. You can indeed do all that at home but when you mix that joy of creating and add some 'sewcial' group fun into the mix, you can get a great community going, which will envelop you and help you feel happy and included in this crazy busy world we live in.
