Hansib Publications

General information

Hansib Publications was founded in London in 1970 and began life publishing The West Indian Digest (1971), a magazine for Britain's fledgling West Indian communities.

In the two decades that followed, Hansib engaged and communicated further with the Caribbean, African and Asian communities with its magazines Asian Digest (1983) and Root (1987), and its newspapers West Indian World (1974), Caribbean Times (1981), Asian Times (1983) and African Times (1985).

In the 1980s, the company took its first major steps into book publishing and, to date, has published in the region of 150 titles. Subjects range from Caribbean politics to Black history, Indo Caribbean literature to West Indies cricket, Caribbean cooking to Indian poetry, and African Caribbean memoir to Black British literature.

For more than four decades, Hansib Publications has reflected and chronicled the achievements and struggles, the turmoils and frustrations, and the hopes and dreams of Britain's Caribbean, African and Asian communities.
