Roots and Wings

General information

Roots & Wings... the Newcastle-based collective with an obvious overarching ambition to conquer the universe and create a fairer, more just society full of pure mint design. Strictly speaking Roots & Wings is not a 'design company' as such, because we don't limit ourselves to just design. Our portfolio contains everything from printed maps to educational Apps, from children's books to youth-participatory film.

Being a group of practitioners from different artistic backgrounds, we love to experiment with different mediums. Branding, websites, Copy and print form a significant portion of our work, but we also do workshops and events.

We are your all-in-one pollinator-promoting, heritage-mapping, lightbulb-vectorising, digital horticulturalists, here to remedy the pedestrian and the formulaic!

The company name represents our objectives; to stay deeply rooted in the community and to tackle inequality and social issues through creative solutions, or as we see it, through the development of wings. Roots & Wings is a community-interest company (C.I.C).

This means that 100% of our profits are re-invested towards further community work and subsidising projects which fulfil our social aims, such as our educational outreach projects. We play an active role in promoting and facilitating awesome projects across the North East and all of our work retains a strong community focus.
