Since opening the first store in York in 1890, we have been running an independent family owned department store for over 100 years. Expanding into other locations; Helmsley, Beverley and Gainsborough, Browns have created an experience within their stores, where a stunning selection of products and services are on offer within one concept.

Our beauty halls in York, Beverley and Gainsborough are filled with the most prestigious names from the world of beauty including Chanel, Dior, Bobbi Brown, YSL, Sisley, Estee Lauder, Clarins, Benefit, Clinique and Elizabeth Arden, our beauty experts can find the perfect product for every client. Alongside our Beauty Halls situates our Fragrance selection featuring the latest designer fragrances including Chloe, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs and many more.

All our stores feature a gorgeous handbag department which include iconic fashion labels such as Ralph Lauren, Radley, Orla Kiely, Coccinelle, Lamb and Modula where all the latest collections are on display so every woman can find the style for her. For a more special little gift, our Lingerie Department has the most exquisite and divine collection from many well-established brands including Calvin Klein, Walcoal, Fantasie, Freya, Triumph, Lepel, Charnos and many more.

An extensive range of ladies fashion is included in all Browns stores, with a wide variety of designer brands to suit everybody’s fashion needs. From Masai, White Stuff, French Connection, Lauren by Ralph Lauren and Phase Eight to Joules, Gerry Weber, Great Plains, James Lakeland, Fuse and Jacques Vert, every female should find her perfect outfit for any occasion. Pair your outfit up with a shoe chosen from our award winning designated ladies shoe collection, with leading brands Moda In Pelle and UGG.

York, Helmsley and Gainsborough also feature a menswear department full of many well-established fashion brands; Barbour, Hackett, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren, Ted Baker and others, so whether it is a formal occasion and a suit is required or a casual day wear look, you will find all you need here.

Our York store has a large furniture department located at the back of the second floor, where all your interior design needs can be met. Products range from sofas, beds, tables, cabinets and much more. As well as this, our Home and Cookshop collections offer a great deal of choice, available at our Helmsley store.

Within our York store, we truly can create an experience for you with the services on offer, get glammed up at our Regis Hair and Beauty Salon, our Nail Bar and our Biju Brow Bar, or book a personal shopping experience to create the perfect outfit. For a place to relax and unwind after a busy day or a catch up with loved ones, visit our first floor Rhodes Restaurant or ground floor Café-Restaurant. The Beverley store holds itself magnificently in one of the region’s most historical and popular buildings, the towns former Picture Playhouse. The conversion of the grade 2 listed building proved quite a challenge but has given spectacular results with many of the internal features being retained.

The impressive building together with the highest quality of admired and unique brands has made Browns a popular attraction for the tourist town of Beverley. The store also offers an exquisite café-restaurant located on the first floor, and a Brow Bar.

The Gainsborough store is situated in Marshalls Yard, a well-known popular shopping destination. Offering parking right outside the door, this store provides a delightful range of cosmetics, Ladies and Men’s fashions; including Barbour, Gant, Phase Eight, and White Stuff and Fashion Accessories, Gift Cards and a Nail and Brow Bar.
