General information
The Oxfordshire Oesophageal and Stomach Organisation (OOSO) works to raise awareness amongst both the public and GP's of the symptoms of Stomach and Oesophageal Cancer , as well as provide moral and emotional support to those affected by these diseases.
This advice is drawn from former patients and members of OOSO who have experienced the treatment and operation associated with our types of cancer.
We are in regular contact with the Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS’s) and Consultant Surgeons at the Churchill Hospital so new patients and their carers have contact with former patients, in hospital or at meetings with doctors, nurses, dieticians and physiotherapists. If asked by a CNS we will visit patients and carers on the wards or at home, either pre- or post-operatively.
We have a help line which is open between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, manned by former patients, for patients and carers to get help or just to talk.
We also run a number of fund raising activities to support additional programmes the hospital team wish to embark on or to provide any additional equipment that could help the recovery of patients (both in hospital and at home).
