SMASH

General information

SMASH'S core work is carried out through one to one mentoring over a yearlong period, and provides support and encouragement to young people who are in need of help to reach their full potential.

The aim of the mentoring work that SMASH undertakes is to increase the young people’s confidence, self-esteem and motivation; empower them to make their own decisions; increase the number of young people in education, training and work; reduce anti-social behaviour and offending; encourage a positive identity with young people, their families and local communities; and to achieve good quality relationships for young people with adults to build trust and provide effective and positive role models.

The young people are referred to the Project from numerous agencies such as Schools, Children & Families, Educational Welfare Officers (EWO’s), Connexions, Youth Offending Team (YOT), and Young Carers.

SMASH is predominantly funded by The Big Lottery, who in July 2016 granted SMASH over £400,000 to keep the Project running for another four years. The Project also relies heavily on ‘one off’ charitable donations in order to provide extra activities, special projects and services. At present these funders include Building Bridges, Children in Need, Wiltshire and Wiltshire Community Foundation.
