The Old Tramway Inn Company Information
General information
Welcome to the Old Tramway Inn, a traditional public house in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. We are only a moments walk from Stratford Butterfly Farm, the banks of the River Avon, Holy Trinity Church, Royal Shakespeare Theatres and Shakespeare's Birthplace.
The original tramway was intended to carry Black Country coal to the rural districts of southern Warwickshire via the Stratford-on-Avon Canal. Part of the track originally ran parallel to Shipston Road from Cox's yard, near the Bancroft Gardens, to the Cotswold town of Moreton. Along this tramway a house was built in 1856 which later became known as the Old Tramway Inn. The inn now stands nestled between guest houses, small hotels and bed and breakfasts that line the A3400 leading on to the famous Clopton Bridge towards the town centre. The local places to stay are perfect for a weekend break or short holiday. In fact we have many links with local businesses and can advise you on where to stay nearby. Many of our special offers are exclusive to those staying in local accommodation.
If you are visiting or staying in Stratford upon Avon town then call in. We are a pleasant short walk via the tramway bridge across the River Avon and will offer you a very warm welcome on arrival. Our very own gardens and alfreco dining areas provide a wonderful outdoor experience for all the family and perfect for celebrating events. For the more active or sporty, the recreation ground, cricket and sports clubs are only a stone's throw away including Stratford Town Football Club in nearby Tiddington.
The pub offers plenty of parking unlike some others in Stratford. Our enclosed garden makes it safe for families, children and pets and all the major tourist attractions are within easy walking distance. A 5 minute walk into town passes the River Avon with beautiful views of the RSC. We keep up to date with what's on at the theatre and we are always happy to get your evening off to great start with our excellent pre-theatre dinners. For those going to an afternoon performance, we have the perfect light lunch menu.
If you are exploring further afield, Warwick Castle is a short drive away.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
